The Secret Life of Chickens

I like how you said “when” not “if” we have a new batch of chicks lol. Is there a way to influence a broody chicken?
I think we don’t have any ability to make a non-broody hen broody or to make a broody hen get off a nest of eggs. We’re just grateful witnesses to the whole thing. I suppose keeping them happy and safe and well-fed encourages natural behavior, too.
Brilliant post! I really liked the mommy and daddy chicken love each other line. The cloacal kiss is so romantic! Chickens are definitely going to be the most popular pet this spring.
LOL! Thanks Carrie for always keeping me up to date on your many adventures!
Carrie, you are making me smile and laugh out loud at 6:03 am, in the morning, sipping coffee in bed, longing to have fresh eggs daily. What a delight!
Too cute, Carrie! When Charley and I had out ranch in Utah, it came with one wild hen who few from low tree to low tree, laying eggs in winter only to have them ravaged, eaten by coyotes. She’d display upset, but find a spot to lay more eggs. Poor baby!
Then I had friends who lived in the city, but who had two “party” chickens, Elvis and Priscilla, who lived in splendid custom houses and who, quite literally, loved parties! Moved around quite easily and unafraid and who were admired. what fun!!@ Love, Tanii
